Thibault Laget-Ro’s exhibition
Exhibition: Ce que j’ai vu s’efface encore/What I Saw Is Fading Again
Pontmain Contemporary Art Center
June 27–August 23, 2026
Presented at the Pontmain Contemporary Art Center from June 27 to August 23, 2026, the exhibition Ce que j’ai vu s’efface encore marks a new phase in Thibault Laget-Ro’s artistic exploration. After devoting several series to migration, labor, and questions of freedom, the artist now places dreams at the center of his work as a space of emancipation and resistance in the face of the uncertainties of the contemporary world.
The exhibition brings together anonymous figures, almost always faceless, immersed in ordinary or contemplative situations. Their posture, more so than their features, becomes the vehicle for emotion and invites the viewer to project their own story. This absence of faces reflects a desire to universalize the figures rather than to represent individuals.
The landscape plays an essential role. Lush nature, imaginary vegetation, and colors freed from all symbolism compose a universe where dream and reality gradually blend together. Color no longer illustrates a predefined meaning; it acts as an energy capable of transforming the perception of reality.
The entire exhibition is permeated by several tensions: freedom and constraint, reality and fiction, humanity and nature, the gravity of the world and the power of the imagination. Dreams thus appear as a protected inner space, capable of offering a form of freedom in an era marked by the blurring of lines between information, fiction, and the manipulation of images.
This exploration is extended through two installations. A video created with the help of artificial intelligence offers an overview of the painted landscapes and invites viewers to reflect on our relationship with a world that is both magnificent and fragile. The participatory installation Rêver-Dérêver allows visitors to deposit their own dreams in a “Dream Box,” transforming dreams into a collective and shared experience rather than a purely individual one.
Beyond presenting a body of recent works, the exhibition guide highlights a significant evolution in the artist’s approach: from painting fueled by geopolitical and social tensions toward a more introspective exploration, where dreams become a tool for questioning our relationship to reality, memory, and new forms of representation.
Dreams are presented here as a way to inhabit the world differently when the reference points of reality become uncertain.
This new direction in the artist’s work bridges the gap between her earlier explorations (migration, freedom, landscape, anonymity) and her current inquiries into the human figure, artificial intelligence, and new forms of representation.
