The Floating Worlds

The new triptych of the Espace Beaurepaire-Thérèse Gutmann Prize is: The Empire of Senses – The Empire of Signs
The first theme proposed for this 4th edition is: “In a world in perpetual mutation, transformation and metamorphosis,
Poetizing the world of today”.
The jury met on Thursday, November 19, 2020. Unanimously and with great pleasure, it awarded the Espace Beaurepaire 2021 Prize to the artist Caroline Bouyer for her work “Les Mondes flottants”. The awarding of the Prize will take place during the inauguration of the exhibition in 2021.
The Nathalie Béreau Gallery is happy of this new reward for the work of Caroline Bouyer!

Presentation

“To respond to the theme of “Poetizing today’s world”, starting from the premise that poetic speech escapes the imperative of producing meaning, ignores injunctions and communication, I have chosen to show a series of drawings where dreamlike landscapes are reinvented. These are “floating worlds” between reality and imagination, composed of a multitude of signs and fragments that I collect “while walking through life, a notebook in hand”.
These representations translate a common desire in our current societies, of a walk against the grain, the reverse of that of a civilized and urbanized environment. This series illustrates the outcome of a regular withdrawal and an abandonment to the powers of the imagination and wandering. It is a drawing that is lockdown and freely improvised, that abstracts us from worldly reality, it is a poetic search conferring an absence of purpose and performance.” Caroline Bouyer, excerpt.

The finalists are :
Clémence Arnold
Saskia Bertrand
