A nomadic gallery owner… since 2004!

On November 4, 2004, the Nathalie Béreau Gallery was founded.
After more than 20 years in business, the desire remains strong to showcase and champion artists, spark curiosity, inspire a passion for collecting, and simply enjoy the experience.

Encounters with artists have fostered friendships, evoked emotions, sparked hopes, brought disappointments, and reinforced convictions—just as life itself does. They have strengthened a commitment to art, with art, and against—against everything, to paraphrase and twist Sacha Guitry’s words—despite the difficulties encountered. This passion has been revitalized by exchanges with fellow artists, loyal and attentive art lovers and collectors, as well as the journalists and curators I’ve met. At the École du Louvre, during my studies, I learned to look. Then I learned to set aside knowledge, studies, and theories—while keeping them in mind—to forge my own path, driven by creativity.
Over the years, perspectives evolve, as does one’s gaze; choices can become more refined or more radical—the subject matter is alive.
Versatile, the nomadic gallery’s activities have expanded into other fields, whether curating a collection for hotels, conducting archival work, or highlighting specific works.
Here, organizing the Beaurepaire Prize for young artists and recent graduates of the École Boule; there, organizing the Paris Print Fair on behalf of the CSEDT.

These missions, as I call them, are not impossible and enrich our knowledge, our ability to listen, and our perspective.

Art today involves financial implications that sometimes defy comprehension. I take the risk, time and again, to continue showcasing works, supporting artistic creation, standing by it, and striving to inspire a desire to collect—even on the most modest scale.

Drawing on my acquired knowledge and my selective sensibility, I bring a different perspective and make unique choices, regardless of the venue.
The gallery thus serves as a bridge between the artist’s work and the art lover or collector.
It represents some twenty artists, with a particular focus on sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, and installations.
The gallery also specializes in presenting works on or made of paper and contemporary prints.

It supports artists who, like tightrope walkers, play with the conventions of art history, create works where “recycling” is not just an empty phrase, and reflect on the contemporary world or their own sensibilities in confronting it, while focusing on the limits or constraints imposed upon them. Nature also holds a prominent place, even if it is approached within a framework that aims to be more poetic than activist.

The Career

After studying at the École du Louvre and the Sorbonne (where I earned my master’s degree under the supervision of Marina Vanci) and working for 12 years as an assistant at an art gallery in Paris, I launched my career as a gallery owner specializing in contemporary art in 2004.
In 2008, I opened a gallery in the heart of the historic town of Chinon, in the Loire Valley, and began organizing unconventional exhibitions, which led me, starting in 2011, to take charge of the programming at the Chai Pierre et Bertrand Couly.
In 2013, I was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for my efforts in presenting contemporary art in the Centre-Val de Loire region.

At the same time, starting in 2008, the gallery began organizing exhibitions at 6 Mandel Street in Paris at the invitation of Jean-Christophe Stöerkel, thereby paving the way for apartment exhibitions.
An exceptional venue steeped in history, this private mansion—where Christian Dior once lived—offers artists a unique setting, far removed from the traditional white cube of the modern gallery.

Since October 2018, the gallery has been a member of the CSEDT (Chamber of Prints, Drawings, and Paintings).
In 2021, the gallery—still nomadic—reinvented itself with a new logo, a completely redesigned website, and, in addition to its exhibitions, an online store.
An exceptional place, steeped in history, this private mansion where Christian Dior lived offers artists an original setting, far from the traditional white cube of the modern gallery.

Since October 2018 the gallery is member of the CSEDT, Chambre Syndicale de l’Estampe, du Dessin et du Tableau.
In 2021, the gallery—which remains nomadic—is reinventing itself with a new logo, a completely redesigned website, and, in addition to its exhibitions, online shopping area.

The website remains the primary resource for information on our various activities, exhibition updates, works selected for sale, and news about the artists we represent.
We have refocused our exhibitions on Paris to increase their visibility, hosting special exhibitions and participating in the Paris Print Fair since its inception.

The gallery also offers art consulting missions and projects.
