Presentation
The exhibition ‘Metamorphoses, Chimeras and Other Fantasies’ presents a selection of contemporary artists from the gallery.
Each artist, in their own way, embarks on a journey into reveries, animal or human metamorphoses, playing with well-known myths such as those of Ovid in Valérie Belmokhtar’s work, or creating their own chimeras, as in Thibault Laget-Ro’s work ; evoking elements of their personal history, as in the work of Atsuko Ishii and Xecon Uddin. Samir M. Zoghby, an artist of art brut who passed away this year, has contributed a series of colourful and amusing drawings of anthropomorphic birds, caricatures of our contemporaries.
Véronique Pineau creates sculptures – like assembled pieces – from forgotten crockery, with an amused look at everyday life sublimated by this transformation. Violaine Laveaux, a new artist presented at the gallery, will show us a famous metamorphosis, that of the gaze. Or how Medusa petrifies us…
